God Bless America!

“Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.” (2 Chronicles 20: 15-17)

“Do not be terrified, do not be afraid of them. The Lord your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, …before your very eyes.” (Deut 1: 29-30)

Terror strikes our nation:

Tuesday, September 11, 2001 will be recorded as one of the worst days, if not the worst day, in American history. Terrorists from halfway across the world struck fear and devastation in the minds and hearts of all Americans. The rest of the world also watched in disbelief as brutal destruction in New York’s World Trade Center, the Federal Pentagon Building in Washington D.C., and a plane crash in western Pennsylvania took place within minutes of each other. More than 6,000 people are killed or missing in this huge disaster. Americans all over the nation are suffering widespread posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), just like combat veterans have in all the wars in which America ever fought.

In the weeks and months ahead, we all will need to know how to overcome our enemy. As is stated in Ephesians 6, we also need to know to have the attitude of a warrior for Christ, and that we will overcome. Romans 8: 37-39 says: “Yet in all those things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Ask the Lord to fight for you!

The Lord will fight for you! Ask the Lord to fight for you in those areas in which you are weak. Recognize fear and weariness for what they are: tactics of the devil. Fear quenches faith quickly, and weariness is a slow death to faith.

Keep your faith!

Don’t lose your peace, but keep your shield of faith. Be renewed in the power of your mind. Through your mouth, mind, and heart, keep your faith and you will be strong.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports on new Love Lines pornography outreach!

By STEPHEN SCOTT

A woman with bedroom eyes casts her gaze upon a visitor and inquires, “Lonely?” Another tilts her head suggestively and begs out of the corner of her lipstick smile, “You and I need to talk.”

A sign between them says “Real Love,” and an inviting treasure map posted nearby adds the disclaimer, “Must be 21 or older to enter . . . ”

By all appearances, it is an Internet porn site, where a viewer may click on the above images or opt for a “Free preview” or “Image gallery.”

The perpetrators of this sultry, cyber-suggestive sex talk?

A Bible-based, evangelical Christian counseling center.

“We don’t want to close down the porn sites, we just want all their customers,” said Dan Morstad, director of Minneapolis-based Love Lines Crisis Center.

Morstad started Love Lines 29 years ago as an offshoot of a radio program on KTIS in Roseville. Using 150 trained volunteer telephone counselors, Love Lines offers short-term help and long-term referrals for callers seeking help with drug and alcohol addictions, depression, suicide prevention and marriage and relationship problems.

The list now includes pornography.”

Quilts for Mexico

A nice note from Craig D Hubert, a student at the Lay Ministry Training Center at North Heights Lutheran Church here in Minnesota to pass along:

“Beverly Cohrs asked me to write a little article about our trip to Mexico and my experience with the distribution of the hand made quilts which several people were very kind and generous with their time to help make.

It is quite amazing and heart rending at the same time how the people that I met in Mexico survive and thrive on the little that they have. At the same time it was very sad for me to see these folks go without some of the most basic things, things that we consider next to nothing.

Funny how our perceptions can be so different, to think that in America, we become unhappy if we aren’t served fast enough at a fast food restaurant.. In Mexico the people are just happy to have a very simple meal of tortillas and beans, and even happier if they have someone to share it with.

It amazed me that these people with next to nothing in material goods would be so happy to share whatever they might have, and do it with a cheerful heart. I even heard a rumor that one of the women from the church sold a coat that she had to feed the girls breakfast. Even though she knew that we brought our own money and our own food with us this sweet woman felt like she had to give of herself . Just as Jesus said of the widows mite, how precious is a gift of sacrifice !!!

I find myself asking,” Do I really know what a sacrifice is ?” If personal sacrifice can bring someone such happiness and satisfaction maybe I need to do more in the area of giving. If I don’t have money to give, I can always give of myself through volunteer effort.

Romans chapter 10 says ” How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things ! ” When you folks made those quilts, you were preaching the gospel of love and peace from within your hearts to the tips of your fingers, GOD BLESS YOU !!!

The last night that we were in Mexico I stayed at the Pastors home about a ten minute drive from the church. It was a plain green building with a neat entry port where a parrot squawked and a dog lye on the ground. The whole family came out to help unload the quilts from the bus where they were stored. The two little boys worked especially hard at carrying the quilts into the house.

Then it came time for us to go inside the house and go to sleep. The Pastors wife led us into a large but very empty room with only two beds on the floor, no sheets no blankets and no pillows. How sad my heart was for my brothers who have so little!!!

After I did my best to try and thank them and ask for their address in my less than adequate Spanish. ( by this time we were pretty much using sign language to communicate) The Pastors wife managed to get a message across which I will never forget. With tears in her eyes, she looked at us and signed with her arms across her chest ” My heart is so thankful for the blankets.” Then she gave me a hug and my heart just went out to this woman who didn’t even have sheets for the beds, let alone blankets.”

A BLANKET WARMS A BODY, A BLANKET WARMS A HEART

A GIFT OF LOVE , IS THE PERFECT WAY TO START.

TO SAY I LOVE YOU , STRAIGHT FROM MY HEART.

THAT’S WHAT A QUILT MEANS.

WHEN IT’S WOVEN FROM THE HEART.

GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU!!!

Sincerely yours,
