Teenagers

Physical Development in Early Adolescents

Puberty Strikes Part 2 of 3!!

The event for boys that parallels menarche for girls is the first ejaculation. Usually this occurs while the boy is asleep, hence the term "wet dream". Unprepared for this, some boys think that they just wet the bed - more worry , guilt, and embarrassment. Other worries include the size of one's penis (in comparison with others they might of seen or heard about) and spontaneous erections (occurring at the most inappropriate times). Masturbation is also common with this age group.

Recent studies have shown that worry "about my looks" peaks at the eighth grade: In fact 69 percent of girls and 49 percent of boys in that grade list this as their main worry. Privacy is also very important for early adolescents. We must give them their space that they need to adjust to their new bodies. Their appearance and new developments dramatically affects their social life. They need ways to gain a positive identity and a feeling of self worth. Encourage them not discourage, so many times we don't let them be an individual or have their independence so they loose that sense of creativity and innocence. "Words for the day: Hug your teenager today and let them know that they are loved and accepted. Be open to new ideas and experiences." (To be continued...!!)

God bless you and keep you,
