Children

Kids in Crisis

by Diane Morstad

I think every parent has had the experience of waking up in the night overwhelmed with concern for a child. Whether the child is in their teen years and out beyond their curfew or grown but living a life far from the standards set by the family, worry keeps us awake in the night.

God has a plan for the parents who are worried and concerned for their loved ones. It is found in Lamentations 2:19. The Amplified Bible words it like this (the spacing of the lines is mine):

"Arise from your bed, Cry out in the night, At the beginning of the watches.

Pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord;Life up your hands toward Him for the life of your young children, Who faint with hunger at the corner of every street."

My interpretation is:

"Get up from bed when you lie worrying about the little ones.

(This is the hardest part).

Let God definitely know about your concern, (Rather than watching TV).

Whatever time you wake up.

Let your tears flow in front of God,(Easy, once you get this far),While you petition Him for the life of your young children, (List your children by name, thanking God for their good qualities and abilities),Who are out and about searching for answers to their problems, (Coming up empty-handed and hungry, looking to the world for satisfaction rather than to God)."

Bad things can still happen to our children even when we pray. They still have free-will and God will not always override their decisions, but it is comforting to us to know that we did the best we could and that God was doing His part in caring for them.

God bless you,
